Juju Child was born Roosevelt Williams in New Orleans and raised in Mississippi. He attended Central High School and graduated salutatorian of his class. He attended
Alcorn State and Southern University in Baton Rouge I majored in Music Education and Jazz Studies with renowned jazz educator Alvin Batiste. After moving to Chicago and working as a certified musicologist at Chicago Public Library, Juju made the decision to become a songwriter and began working with a group called Secrets, which included the Ron younger brother of Maurice White from Earth Wind and Fire. These were exciting times. In April 1983 he received his first mention in Billboard' pick hit of the week with MC2 "Blow Me Away". After this he began to search for musical ideas on a global basis. "My family is very much into the church. Church of God in Christ. My uncles and grandfather all were musicians, although not professional. My grandfather and grandmother even knew and offered hospitality on occasions to the famous bluesman Robert Johnson. My uncle James Williams of the Gospel group Crown Seekers is one of the premire gospel musicians in New Orleans. "
Juju Child has performed worldwide including Canada, France, Germany, Uk, the Netherlands as well as Brazil, Africa and Guadeloupe. Additional performances include; The House of Blue, Tipitinas and The SuperDome while working with top local support acts for international artists such as Lionel Hampton, Steel Pulse, The Wailers, Herbie Hancock, Sister Sledge and others. He plays blues/soul and funk music and is a writer for German music publisher Sonoton of film and tv soundtracks. Upon his return. to America after 15 years living in Europe, Juju Child performs live on weekends at 21st Amendment 725 Iberville st in New Orleans, each Sunday night at Three Keys/Ace Hotel and on occasion, tours with Dwyane Dopsi.
